Measurement of coronary blood flow using radioactive iodine compared with nitrous oxide.

چکیده
Q measurement of coronary blood flow by indicator-dilution methods has been attempted by various groups within the past five years. The theory upon which these studies have been based is that after injection into either the pulmonary artery or left ventricle, the first activated blood to reach the right ventricle on recirculation returns by way of the coronary vessels. Henly and eo-workers rapidly injected a bolus of I human serum albumin into the distal pulmonary artery and monitored the curves in the right side of the heart. The resulting calculations gave coronary-flow values averaging less than 5 per cent of the cardiac output. No standard was used for comparison. Precordial counting to approximate coronary blood flow has been investigated by Love and Burch and compared with a direct method of measuring the blood emptying from the coronary sinus, using an infusion of the radioactive tracer. Two questions have been raised: (a) Is it

Measurement of Myocardial Blood Flow in Animals and Man by Selective Injection of Radioactive Inert Gas into the Coronary Arteries.
• The Kety-Schmidt method for measurement of regional blood flow was first applied to the heart by Eckenhoff et al. These investigators employed coronary sinus catheterization to measure myocardial blood flow with nitrous oxide. The use of a radioactive gas and an external detector for the measurement of organ blood flow was investigated by Conn, Lewis et al., and Lassen et al. The radioactive ...
متن کاملMeasurement of coronary blood flow in dogs and man from rate of myocardial nitrous oxide desaturation.
A technic of measuring left ventricular coronary blood flow in dogs and man from the rate of desaturation of nitrous oxide from the myocardium is presented. The desaturation technic appears valid in comparison with the previously described saturation technic, and affords definite technical advantages. By combining the two technics, flows may be measured within much less time than by repeating e...
متن کاملMeasurement of Coronary Sinus Blood Flow
In 14 subjects with normal coronary arteries the mean coronary sinus blood flow was 122 25 mI/min (range, 83 to 159 ml/min). The blood flow computed per 100 g of left ventricle was 82 + 16 ml/min, which is in the range of values obtained by nitrous oxide and coincidence counting methods. In 35 patients with arteriographically confirmed coronary artery disease the mean flow was similar (128 + 20...

متن کاملNitrous oxide added to halothane reduces coronary flow and myocardial oxygen consumption in patients with coronary disease.
The haemodynamic and myocardial metabolic effects of adding 50 per cent nitrous oxide to 0.5 per cent halothane were studied in 13 patients, before the surgical incision for coronary artery vein grafts. Cardiac output and coronary sinus blood flow were determined by thermodilution, along with haemodynamic measurements. Measurements 15 minutes after addition of nitrous oxide revealed a significa...
